Percussion is a lot harder than it seems like it would be. That is not a dig at percussionists...more a plea for help, actually.
I don't record with a metronome which is obviously a part of the issue. I should probably use separate tracks for vocals and guitars...but it always sounds weird to me when I record them separately.
